Kiku stared out of the car window as it pulled up near the school. He hated his parents for tearing him away from all his friends to live there. He had lived in Japan all of his life with his brothers and sisters and he loved it there. He didn't see why he had to move simply because his parents were fighting ... his brother, Yao, on the other hand, was excited and kept asking if there were any cute animals around and freaked out every time he saw a squirrel. Kiku, Yao and Mei were the only ones that their father was able to take with him. Vietnam, the Korea Brothers and Thailand were living with their mother at their old home
"Look! Another squirrel! Oh, they're so adorable, aru!" Yao cried, bouncing up and down in his seat
"Ooh! Where is it? Let me see!" Mei said, trying to crane her neck to look passed Yao
"One would think he was younger than me" Kiku thought bitterly as he continued to stare out of the window
He watched the clouds in the sky. How he envied them ... they were free from the restrictions of the world below. Kiku sighed as the car came to a stop
"We're here, Kiku" His father said
Kiku got out in silence, not wanting to speak to the man who tore him away from his friends. Yao got out and patted Kiku on the back, which was never a good idea ... because Kiku was very sensitive about his personal space. Mei almost literally jumped out of the car and joined her brothers
"Mei, get back in the car. You're not old enough, yet" Their father said, sounding agitated
"Go back, Mei" Yao said, looking at her
She looked at Kiku, who just nodded and with that, she got back in the car
"Come on, Kiku! Let's go!" Yao said
Kiku merely sighed and followed his excited older brother into the building with his head down. He knew that Yao was going to be in different classes than him because of their age, but he could deal with that ... he didn't care much for Yao, anyway ...

--

Within minutes, Kiku hated the place. People kept calling Yao a girl because of his long ponytail and people kept making fun of their accents, as well as their names. Eventually, Kiku had enough and decided to wonder away from Yao. By pure chance, he wondered into the library and looked in interest at the books around him. He instantly went to check if there was a manga section and, not surprisingly, there was none. He was glad that he had decided to take a book with him to keep him sane throughout his first day. He took a seat in the corner of the library, set his bag down, took out his book and began to read. He was quite content with the way things were ...
"H-hey ...?"
He looked up and his heart almost stopped. Before him was the prettiest girl he had ever seen in his life. She had [h/c] hair which was [h/l] and the most beautiful [e/c] eyes. Unfortunately, the uniform she was wearing almost caused him to have a nosebleed
"Konnichiwa" He said, bowing his head
"Oh! You're Japanese?" She asked
"Hai" He said
"That's so cool!" She said, sitting next to him
He flinched a little because he didn't like people getting too close
"Hey, that's Manga isn't it?" She asked , pointing at the book he was reading
"Hai" He said
"Wow ... I have loads of Manga books at home" She said, her cheeks going pink
"Nani? All in Japanese?" He asked
"No, English. But it is still in the Japanese format. You know, right to left instead of left to right" She replied
"I hate it when companies switch it around to the western way of reading ... it makes me sad" He said
"Me too, I think it's a shame that people don't get to experience it" She said, sighing
He put the book down and looked at her
"So, are you new here?" She asked
"Hai" He said
She gave a little laugh
"You don't speak much, do you?" She said, raising an eyebrow
"I only speak when I believe it is necessary" He said, looking down
"O-oh. Am I pestering you?" She asked
"No. Maybe we can read some Manga together some time" He said
"Oh, that would be lovely. I'll meet you here at lunch, ok?" She asked with a smile
"Hai, that would be very nice" He said with a small smile
"By the way, I'm [Name]. [Name][Last Name]" She said, smiling
"Honda, Kiku" He said
"Kiku? That's such a cute name!" She said, giggling
"It ... is?" He asked, blushing a little
"Yeah ... your accent is kind of cute, too" She said
"A-Arigatou" He mumbled, his cheeks going pink
Just then, the bell rang, signalling the start of the next lesson. [Name] got to her feet
"I have to go. I'll catch you later, ok?" She asked
"Hai, that would be wonderful" Kiku replied, getting up and picking up his bag
[Name] smiled
"I guess this is goodbye for now, then" She said
"Hai. Sayonara, [Name]-san" Kiku said, giving a bow
She giggled
"Goodbye, Kiku" She said, hurrying off
Kiku found it a little bizarre that she didn't bow back, but he shrugged it off
"Maybe it has something to do with her culture ... I'd much like to learn more about her ... but before that, I must go to my next lesson" He thought
He walked out of the library, a little happier than he had been earlier that morning. He was beginning to think that moving to that area wasn't going to be so bad after all
