Truth be told, guys ... I really used to hate where I live. I thought it was an ugly, constantly raining and sometimes quite dangerous place. It wasn't until I watched a few documentaries about English History (where they showed a few shots of the landscape, or castles) when I realised that not all parts of England are bad. In fact, sometimes it is
beautiful! The strange thing was, I never noticed how beautiful England could be until I just stopped and looked around. Heck, beauty was even in my back garden ... we have a little Fuchsia bush that grows back every summer and it always looks very colourful and pretty. Then of course, the front gardens just down the road are very beautiful in the spring/summer, too
There was one point I wished I was American (because my Dad's brother lives in Texas with his family and a whole bunch of other reasons) ... but, apart from my fear of heights, there's one thing that changed my mind.
Hetalia. I am not kidding, it made me look at my home country in a totally different way and surprisingly, the character reminded me that a lot of Brits behave the way the character does, which is hilarious (also, his voice actor has done a good job with his "British Accent". It's the closest to a real one that I've heard so far, so good work!). This show made me feel proud of my heritage and where I'm from ... I know it gets a lot of hate sometimes, but if it can make someone as cynical and depressed as I am feel good about their country, they're doing something right
So, let this be a lesson to you guys. You may not like where you are, but at the end of the day, it's your home ... maybe beauty lies just in your own back yard and you just haven't noticed it. All it takes is a moment to take a look at what's around you ... find the good and beauty in where you are, not where you wish you were.
